✿ I have just gotten back from the most amazing, sunshine-filled holiday to Malta. Whether you’re interested in beaches, shopping, exploring or enjoying incredible food, this guide has you covered! These are my top 5 recommendations that I think you should add to your Malta itinerary.

Comino boat trip (including Blue Lagoon + Crystal Lagoon)

This boat trip was my favourite activity of the whole holiday. I booked it for my family with Luzzu tours for a 4 hour trip and it was perfect. It was so reasonably priced, and the boat itself had plenty of space and shade if you wanted it. They had refreshments available, and a well planned out itinerary in which we stopped for 50 minutes each at Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon and Halfa Rock. You can swim, snorkel, and even dive off the boat into the crystal clear blue water. We hired snorkels for five euros each, and it was worth every penny as it was the best snorkeling of the trip. We also stopped to admire caves and famous rock formations. The boat driver (+ team) was very experienced and skilled, and the whole experience was fantastic. I cannot recommend this tour enough.
Explore Gozo (via car)
My next recommendation is to spend a day exploring the Northern island of Gozo. We hired a car from a local company near Mellieha and took the ferry over from Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal.

Gozo itself isn’t very big, you can drive from one end of the island to the other in 35 minutes, making it perfect for a day of exploring. We started off by driving up to Gozo town to explore the Citadel, which had some amazing views from the top and some lovely souvenir shops.

We then drove west of the island to Blue Hole Viewpoint and the Dwejra Inland Sea where you can swim, sunbathe and enjoy an ice cream (Dwejra Gelateria was amazing).

Finally, we headed over to Ramla Beach. Although a little busy, it was a great place to swim in the sea as it had gently sloping rocks towards the left of the beach that were less crowded and made the water very easily accessible.

Valletta day trip

We were staying around an hour away from Valletta, so decided to take a day trip. We took one of the local buses to Silema (2 Euros per person) and then took the 10 minute ferry (three Euros per person) over to Valletta to enjoy the views of the city along the way. Valletta itself is bustling with restaurants, bars and shops and is brilliant to explore. The highlight of Valletta for me was simply wandering around the town and admiring the incredible views across the bay.
In terms of dining in Valletta, 1522 A Food Story restaurant is a must visit! Located on a picturesque street of restaurants, it can get busy. You can’t pre-book, so turn up a little earlier and be prepared to wait a little whilst enjoying a drink. It’s well worth waiting, as the food and service were outstanding.

For dessert or a sweet treat, head to Tiffany’s Gelateria. It may the best gelato I’ve ever tasted! (The kinder bueno and apricot flavours were my personal favourite).

Mdina (Silent City)

Mdina, often known as the Silent City due to its lack of cars and peaceful atmosphere, is the ancient capital of Malta, and visiting makes a great half-day trip. The Silent City itself is very small, so walking around doesn’t take long…we took it at a very leisurely pace. There are a few restaurants and places to have a drink, as well as a few souvenir shops. The tall sandy walls, stone streets and lack of noise make it feel like you have gone back in time. I don’t think this would take more than a few hours, but is a really cool place to visit.

Coral Lagoon
This last recommendation is a fascinating viewpoint located right on the northern tip of Malta’s main island. You will find a large hole with brilliantly blue water right on the edge of the cliff, with a stone archway leading out to sea. If you fancy cliff jumping, this is the place for you. You can jump from the cliff up top and then swim around the coast (towards the left in the image below)to get back out. However be careful as it is tidal, currents can vary in strength, and the jump is pretty tall. I think it is a fascinating formation to admire even if you don’t fancy a plunge!

✿ I hope you have found my Malta recommendations useful (or at least enjoyed the pictures), happy travels <3
